From the heart of the country to seventh heaven: using milestones to strengthen emerging products

Join us at the TIS Tourism Innovation Summit #TIS2026 on October 8 at 1:05 p.m. for “From the Heart of the Country to Seventh Heaven: Using Milestones to Strengthen Emerging Products,” a conference by Teresa Cruz, Director of Fundación Descubre.

The session will explore how exceptional science-related events can provide an opportunity to develop and consolidate new tourism experiences. In the case of the 2026–2027–2028 Eclipse Trio, the challenge goes beyond simply attracting visitors to observe an astronomical phenomenon safely: it is about turning the eclipse into a science tourism experience, incorporating knowledge, outreach, participation, heritage, landscape and local tourism offerings.

The eclipse thus acts as a major draw, bringing science to new audiences, revitalising regions and resources – including those outside traditional tourist destinations – and strengthening a science tourism offering capable of enduring beyond the event itself. The aim is not merely to capitalise on the eclipse, but to ensure it leaves behind products, capabilities and a legacy in the region.
